Hockey stick

/ˈhɒki stɪk/

Hockey stick represents a sudden growth followed by a long period of steady growth.

We can attribute this rapid growth to many different factors, both external and internal. Some of these include changing the price or pricing models, others come from the changes in the market, niching down or utilising the power of marketing.

There are 3 stages of hockey stick growth:

  • The stick
  • Inflection point
  • The Shaft.

The stick refers to the flat growth, inflection point to the point of where flat growth turns into exponential growth and the shaft refers to exponential growth.

Though some companies experience hockey stick growth it is important to mention that after a certain period of time their growth goes back to being linear again, providing that they stay consistent and keep growing.
